Are you going to have a party? Do you want to spice it up a little? Do you want to serve blended and frozen drinks? Is part of the fun making drinks? Can you follow recipe's?
If you are answering any of these questions with a yes, then you need a blender. You should choose a blender that does a good job with crushing ice and has a large capacity.
We always make the drink mixing and serving a part of the party, everyone is expected to get into the drink blending and following the recipes. It is always a lot of fun and the laughs we get from making mistakes like too much lime that makes everyone pucker, or too much spirits is the greatest fun, and as the party goes on, and we all are a little braver, we try outlandish things and get the most laughs.
The hub of a party is the music, friends, and everybody participating in the drink mixing and blending.
In choosing blenders for you, I took into consideration buyer reviews, ratings, and price.
You will find information on the following models Osterizer, Hamilton Beach, Black and Decker, Oster, KitchenAid, Waring, Vitamix, and Blendtec. After reviewing all the blenders and the customer reviews, I chose these as the best in each class.
Budget Blenders
For this category I chose the following highly rated blenders: Hamilton Beach, Black and Decker, and Two Oster.
Budget blenders are blenders that do not break the bank, but still provide a good solid tool for making smoothies and drinks. The ones I have chosen for this category are all priced under $50, have good or great reviews and should provide great service for low demand use. I have a blender like these and have been using it since the 70's. I have replaced the gaskets a couple of times but it might be time for a new one since the base is cracked. But at these prices, I can afford one every 30 years or so. The one I have is 'harvest gold' which dates the blender. We have used it mainly as a drink blender, icee maker, and for making smoothies once in awhile. The heavier duty uses are saved for the food processor.
Heavy Duty Blenders
These are blenders that provide a heavy duty service and are used more often. If you are someone who uses a blender several times a week, that is a pretty frequent duty. You need a little more in a blender and it has to hold up to the duty use. These blenders are a little more expensive in the $100 range, but they are expected to complete a heavier duty cycle. If it is used frequently for various jobs, it should have more than one blade and be reliable.
It should have ice crushing ability and can work often without overheating and should have the wattage power needed for the duty cycle.
For this group I have chosen a KitchenAid, two Waring and one Oster.
Commercial Blenders
For this category chose the very highly rated Oster, Waring, Vitamix, and Blendtec.
Great reviews and powerhorses.
Sometimes a blender is used so much it has to do daily duty over and over. This would be a juice bar or a drink bar. When your blender has to do this kind of duty or blending for caterers and party bars, you need to get a heavy duty blender that can do this kind of duty.
The answer is in a commercial blender meant for such duty and it is going to cost more. But if your livelihood depends on it, then you must have a good, commercial duty blender.
Favorite Daiquiri Recipe
Strawberry Daiquiri served with Fresh Fruit
I love a Strawberry Daiquiri but I want it Frozen and Blended
Ingredients:
- Rum 1 Ounce
- 3 or 4 Frozen Strawberries
- Sugar 2 or 3 tsp (sweeten to taste)
- Lemon Juice or Lime Juice 1/2 Ounce
- Ice Cubes 1/2 cup (variations in strawberries call for more or less)
Each drink should be mixed to individual taste, I like lots of rum and strawberries and I don't want the sugar so I add some artificial sweetener. Some people like it tart so add a little more lemon or lime for them and serve with a twist. This is a cooling delicious drink.
Serve in Beautiful Classic Margarita Glasses
Favorite Easy Simple Margarita Recipe
I love the frozen drinks and this one is simple and easy and quick and delicious. I just get my Maragarita mix the liquid from Costco. It is reasonably priced and all you have to do is add your favorite Tequila.
1. One or two ounces of Tequila
2. One cup of Margarita Mix
3. One cup of Ice
Blend on high until the iced is blended and the drink appears frozen, you may need to add some iced. Rim the glass with salt if desired, this makes a hearty drink or split it between two people.
Delicious and refreshing drink.

Suddenly, I think I know a thing or two about Blenders....don't know how that happened but hey;)
Hi Steve, just a hub I was looking for because my wife wants a new blender for Christmas. Thank Yo and God Bless!
Good hub Steveo, I almost found it useless (only because in my real drinking days I never used any kind of mixer). I used to drink Scotch and later Bourbon and Rum but always neet. Then I saw the Margarita mix and realized yeah you got me, that and a Bloody Mary once in a while were also consumed. Blenders can also be used for food, imagine that! Hope you're feeling good man, Peace!! Tom
Blenders are great. I prefer the heavy duty ones. They work great for tossing in frogs!
Reading justom's comments reminded me of when I was rafting down the Sacramento River, I stayed on an island and they used huge, 5 gallon blood "separators" (centrifuges) to mix margaritas - 5 gallons at a time. Worked great.
I use an excellent Oster blender. I love the drinks you mention & the recipes look luscious. But, alas, my blender use has been mostly making fresh fruit smoothies.
Thanks for a fun hub!!
I like the Magic Bullet for small and quite drinks and meals.
Well I do not drink period, and no political or economic situation is going to be a damper on my joy of life. Really, you have to look for the positive things. When I mean drinks I mean the iced mocha kind :).
I have been thinking about a new blender. Thank you for all the great info!
I have got a good blender and thanks for the good recipes
